TRIGGER WARNINGS
As controversial as trigger warnings may be, I think my readers should be able to choose for themselves what they're willing to expose themselves to. All of my books contain fairly strong language, and most feature underage drinking and mild drug use. My YA books are intended for the upper end of the age demographic, so take that into consideration before reading.
Caution: spoilers abound! I've done my best to keep details to a minimum, but have made exceptions where more information provides necessary context.

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE:
SUICIDAL IDEATION
An impulse decision of a character in crisis leads to a spur-of-the-moment suicide attempt by driving into oncoming traffic. The moment is not lingered on in the scene.

Major spoiler: a big part of this book's resolution revolves around the main character having to choose to live.

TRANS-
PHOBIA
One of the characters comes out as transgender to unsupportive parents. This coming-out is depicted on the page (twice) and the parents display transphobic rhetoric both times.
Developer
RELIGIOUS
TRAUMA
This book centres around a religious family and dives into the trauma surrounding the way conservative religious beliefs can stifle queer identities. Prayer is used on the page as a silencing tool, and the narrator explores their own skepticism about the existence of God.

Troubled
teen
industry
One of the main characters is under threat of abduction by the troubled teen industry. This is not displayed on the page, but the threat lingers, and the way they are treated by their foster parents is greatly influenced by their reputation as a "delinquent."

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE:
Self-Harm
One of the main characters is referred to as having struggled with self-harm in the past. She is referenced as having scars.

In a different instance, another main character suffers a self-inflicted injury while performing a rescue.
INTERNALIZED
HOMOPHOBIA
The main internal arc of this book revolves around the main character's struggle to come to terms with his own identity. He has carried a great deal of commentary from his mother, and resists any self-exploration for quite a long time, often turning to anger rather than reflection, suffering from panic attacks.
Intimate
partner
ABUSE
One of the main characters has an abusive ex-girlfriend. While not strictly physically abusive, she was verbally abusive and controlling to the point that it eroded his self esteem and greatly affected the relationships with his closest friends. They do not interact on the page.
death
of a
parent
One of the main characters has a father who has passed. During the events of the book, they acknowledge the one year anniversary of the death. He is remembered well and was well-loved in life as well as death - there is no part of the plot that dwells at length on this death.

The main platonic relationship is heavily toxic, featuring manipulative behaviour and severe dishonesty and gaslighting. This is not perceived as toxic in the moment, and a full acknowledgement of this poor treatment is explored as an unpleasant revelation.
