The
BASICS

Hello! I’m a nonbinary Canadian artist, musician, and author of DEAD GIRLS DON’T SAY SORRY from Knopf BFYR, I WISH YOU WOULDN'T, MAYBE TOMORROW I'LL KNOW from Norton Young Readers, and ALL THE WAY HOME (upcoming, also Norton). Kirkus Reviews called DEAD GIRLS “unsettling and sharply observed,” and Publisher's Weekly said MAYBE TOMORROW was "mind-bending," which really nails what I’m going for in my writing.

When I'm not writing, you can find me hosting tabletop game night as a forever GM, working on illustrations, messing with some musical instrument or another, or hunched over a paint-by-number that has completely taken over my waking consciousness. I write a lot of contemporary (mostly queer), fantasy (mostly horror), and suspense (mostly psychological). Almost everything is set in Canada and features emotional gut-punches that have been described as "rude" and "uncalled for." I live in Calgary, Alberta with my roommate, our two cats, and a TBR pile stacked higher than my head.

THE AUXILIARIES

I work as a bookseller, and spend quite a lot of time with my nose in a book. "What do you recommend?" is one of the best questions on the planet.

My favourite way to decompress is with a paint-by-number and an audio book (or a season of Dimension 20). My favourite way to compress is listening to one of the cats about to hairball.

I have formed an absolutely chaotic writing method that I balance out by being a meticulous editor. (I tell myself the latter is due to inherent attention to detail; it is actually due to horrific short-term memory.)

I am a morning person. I like horror media and sitcoms and music with bass I can feel in my teeth. I write books because if I did not do that I would be very bad at being Alex. It is very exciting to me that people like to read them.
